Mercedes-Benz has shown its brand new Sprinter to the world and, of course, FOCUS was there. On Tuesday, February 6, we joined about 240 of the world’s leading commercial vehicle journalists in Duisburg, Germany, for the world premiere of this highly anticipated new van.

N1N4 toll route operator, Bakwena, has announced that it recorded just nine fatalities in December 2017, and three between January 1 and 15 on the N1N4 toll route. While 12 fatalities are still 12 too many, the figures are significantly lower than those of 2016; when there were 12 fatalities in December 2016 and 19 in January 2017.

While 2017 was characterised by an overall market decline, MAN Automotive has reported a 15-percent annual sales growth for its southern African operation. Overall, sales of trucks and buses increased by 298 units – from 1 969 trucks and buses for 2016, to 2 267 units sold in 2017.

The board of directors of specialist transporter Cargo Carriers has announced the appointment of Lekau (Solly) Letsoalo as the company’s new CEO. Letsoalo has also been made an executive director of Cargo Carriers. The appointments were effective as of January 8.

Dakar 2018 was the 40th edition of the gruelling annual event and – with 185 vehicles entering the race – provided all the thrills and spills for which it has become famous over the years.
