Volvo’s FH vs the Koenigsegg megacar!

An eight-tonne Volvo FH up against one of the world’s fastest cars – a Koenigsegg One:1. This is the scenario in the new Volvo film; Volvo Trucks versus Koenigsegg. The aim? To put the new I-Shift Dual Clutch gearbox, based on technology used in sports cars, to the ultimate test.

“Matching a Volvo FH against a Koenigsegg One:1 is the perfect challenge to see if our newly launched I-Shift Dual Clutch transmission lives up to the expectations, in terms of the driveability and driving comfort, that comes with seamless gear shifting,” says Per Nilsson, PR director at Volvo Trucks.

The Koenigsegg One:1 has as much horsepower (1 360 hp) as it does weight (1 360 kg), landing it the title of world’s first megacar. In order to stand a fair chance, the FH received a smaller handicap – the truck drove one lap while the Koenigsegg drove two.

Behind the steering wheel of the Volvo FH was the experienced motor racing personality Tiff Needell, who had never raced a truck before. He admits that he was impressed by the performance of the vehicle.

“I-Shift Duel Clutch is absolutely incredible,” says Needell. “It is particularly noticeable on gradients; the truck does not hold back – it just flows smoothly, without the gear changes being felt. When you brake, it switches down very softly and comfortably. The truck definitely has the heart of a sports car.”
