A quest to conquer Africa

A quest to conquer Africa

Ford South Africa’s much anticipated Ranger Odyssey competition opened to the public at the end of April. The journey will see the Ford Ranger put to the test in Africa’s most extreme terrains. At the end of the adventure, the winner – selected from members of the public – will walk away with one of the Rangers that took part in the Odyssey.

The contestants begin their three-week long adventure in Kenya, where they will travel through the Amboseli Reserve and the Serengeti en route to the Ngorongoro Crater.  Along the way they will travel through Tanzania, Zimbabwe and Mozambique, taking in some of the most spectacular destinations that Africa has to offer, before concluding their journey in South Africa.

The competition will take place from June 24 to July 14, with entries closing on May 3. However, hundreds of entries have already been received, which will be narrowed down to a group of 20.

At a gruelling boot camp, which takes place at a secret location in Botswana, these 20 semi-finalists will have to prove that they have what it takes to participate in the Ranger Odyssey. The top 10 contestants to emerge from the boot camp will then take part in the three-week long journey.

Gavin Golightly, Ford’s marketing manager, explains: “While the Ranger is built to tackle the harshest of environments, not everyone has what it takes to conquer Africa. The boot camp will test the participants to the limit with the aim of singling out those who can truly call themselves Ford Ranger Tough.”
