Class-leading warranties back new MAN TGS WW

With sophisticated driveline and safety features common to most new “technology trucks”, it is in the aftersales offerings of truck suppliers that competitive advantage is determined. None more so than MAN Truck & Bus Africa, which offers unprecedented warranty cover on its new flagship range, MAN TGS WW, a truck designed to handle the rigours of African application with ease.

In an industry fraught with risk, deploying a reliable, economical truck, specifically designed for the job at hand is fundamental to a cost-management approach.

Launched locally in August, the MAN TGS WW is based on “tried and tested in Africa”-technology found in its predecessor, the top-selling MAN TGA range. The TGS WW is ideal for on-highway and on/off-road applications and features new “Trucknology” innovations, enhancing safety, comfort, efficiency and reliability.

With class-leading power-to-weight ratios, the new MAN TGS WW derivatives are equipped with Euro 2 and 3 Common-Rail MAN D26 and D20 diesel engines with power ratings between 257 kW and 353 kW (350 hp to 480 hp) and torque of 1 750 to 2 300 Nm between 1 000 and 1 400 r/min, all fitted with a turbocharger and intercooler.

An overdrive 12-speed MAN TipMatic automated transmission, available with intarder, brings greater ease-of-driving and fuel economy while reducing driveline wear and tear. A ZF 16S252OD 16-speed synchromesh manual transmission is also available. Versatility is a cornerstone of the new MAN TGS WW range with 14 derivatives to choose from with GVM ratings from 19 to 41 tons.

New robustness
For construction and on/off-road applications, the TGS WW comes in 6×4, 6×6 and 8×4 configurations with hub-reduction axles and trapezoidal/parabolic suspension for optimised traction and durability. Front ground clearance on off-road models is an impressive 364 mm. New features have been added to the range to suit the arduous conditions found in Africa including a new radiator and intercooler for temperatures over Class-leading warranties back new MAN TGS WW35oC, a Visco fan with high cooling output, a stone protection grille in front of the radiator, a raised air intake on the cab rear wall, a cyclonic pre-filter, a single large cyclonic air filter with waterproof primary and safety elements and a 30% larger filtration area than the TGA. A steel bumper with a three-piece radiator guard and metal fly-screen bring added protection and durability to the radiator and cooling system in general.

From a safety perspective, the TGS WW is equipped with MAN’s BrakeMatic electronic brake system with ABS. Optional extras include Electronic Stability Program (ESP), lane guard system (LGS) and adaptive cruise control (ACC). A computer-optimised driveline improves brake efficiency, fuel economy, vehicle reliability, ease of use, and safety. Furthermore, comprehensive on-board computer diagnostic functions help reduce maintenance and repair times and a proprietary engine protection system is fitted as standard.

Greater comfort
Touted by MAN as a “driver’s truck”, the TGS WW has a host of features designed to make driving an extra-heavy juggernaut as effortless as a passenger car and as comfortable. An air-conditioning system, mechanical sliding roof and electric windows offer greater in-cab ventilation. Electric mirror adjustment, a 24 V MAN radio/CD player and an air-sprung high-comfort driver’s seat add to the overall luxury finish of the TGS WW.

The MAN TGS WW sports a completely redesigned cab interior fitted with high-grade materials, easy-to-reach controls and instruments, clearly arranged to always be within the driver’s field of vision.  The 2,24 m wide cabs set high ergonomic standards and come in three sizes to suit specific application requirements.

While extensive protection against corrosion and fully galvanized panelling protect the TGS WW against the harshness of African weather conditions, it is the new extended warranty offerings from MAN Truck & Bus Africa that are bolstering its order book.

Best-of-breed warranties
For the first time in South Africa, extra-heavy vehicles come with an impressive, market-leading four-year/600 000 km drive-line warranty that covers MAN engine components including turbocharger, water pump, cooling fan, injector pump, fuel injectors, transmissions (including prop-shafts), MAN drive axles and tandems, as well as internal lubricated parts. MAN TGS WW cabs are warranted against perforation as a result of corrosion for a period of 48 months, from date of delivery to the purchaser. Adding to this comprehensive ticket to “peace-of-mind trucking”, MAN customers can now choose from a variety of purchasable extended warranty products to meet their demands.

With a new multi-brand truck and bus portfolio, MAN Truck & Bus Africa has all the right machinery for gruelling African commercial transport applications. These products are now not only backed by industry benchmark warranties, but by a growing nationwide dealer network that is committed to offering personal service at executive level, to ensure all MAN vehicles deliver lowest cost-of-ownership and remain “consistently efficient”.
