Driving the future
Commercial vehicles are becoming more efficient, economical and environmentally friendly, as well as safer and more comfortable. With companies like Wabco, a supplier of safety and control systems for commercial vehicles, it is easy to understand why …
“At IAA 2014, we will demonstrate the vehicle safety technologies that differentiate Wabco as a leading supplier to every major manufacturer of trucks, buses and trailers worldwide,” says Jacques Esculier, Wabco chairman and CEO.
These include the OnGuardPLUS – an advanced emergency braking system for trucks and buses that detects moving, decelerating and stationary vehicles ahead. It alerts the driver via acoustic, visual and haptic signals. OnGuardPLUS can also autonomously apply the brakes and bring the vehicle to a complete stop, helping to prevent or mitigate rear-end collisions.
Breakthrough mBS – a modular braking system platform (mBSP) that enables commercial vehicle manufacturers to interchangeably equip their truck and bus platforms with anti-lock braking (ABS) or electronic braking systems (EBS), based on regional market or regulatory requirements.
Wabco adds that its mBSP features the industry’s highest degree of standardisation across both components and software of its ABS and EBS systems.
The next-generation TailGUARD is an advanced driver-assistance system that combines the functions of rear blind-spot monitoring and automatic braking. A proven safety technology for trailers since 2010, TailGUARD is now available, for the first time, for trucks and buses.
It uses up to six ultrasonic sensors to identify even small stationary or moving objects, hidden in the vehicle’s blind spot. TailGUARD then alerts the driver, via audio and visual signals, before automatically applying the brakes to prevent collisions.
“These technologies will further help the commercial vehicle industry to improve the safety performance of trucks, buses and trailers worldwide,” says Esculier.
