Iveco: “Think global - act local”

IVECO designs, manufactures, and markets a broad range of medium, heavy and extra-heavy commercial vehicles, off-road trucks, city and intercity buses and coaches as well as special vehicles for applications such as fire fighting, off-road missions, defence and civil protection.

IVECO employs almost 25 000 people and runs 23 production units in 10 countries using excellent technologies developed in six research centres. Besides Europe, the company operates in China, Russia, Australia and Latin America. Around 5 000 service outlets in over 160 countries guarantee technical support wherever in the world an IVECO vehicle is at work.

IVECO South Africa
IVECO South Africa, established in 1993, is the local subsidiary of IVECO SpA and is located with other FIAT Group companies at the group’s head office in Midrand, Gauteng.

Over the past 17 years in South Africa, the company has managed to grow and capture a significant share of the South African Common Customs Union marketplace. IVECO South Africa is also responsible for 23 Sub-Saharan countries with ever-increasing sales opportunities being maximised.

The current product line-up (excluding Power Daily) is sourced directly from the manufacturer’s European manufacturing plants and, with a variety of local adaptations performed in South Africa, is ready to be sold to meet the requirements and specialist demands of the local market.

POWER DAILY
The new IVECO Power Daily is the first fruit of a Chinese joint venture fusing European technology and quality with Chinese manufacturing and economies of scale. Available in both 16 (+ driver) and 19 seater
(+ driver) derivatives, the TRP compliant IVECO Power Daily has been fully homologated for the South African taxi industry. Boasting a forward entry passenger door instead of the old-style sliding door which is often subject to abuse by passengers, it is fitted with a 92 kW/290 Nm vertical in-line four-cylinder engine mated to a five-speed synchromesh transmission. All of this combines with impressive attention to details, superior comfort, a distinguished design and after sales assistance within an ever expanding service dealer network.

DAILY
The new IVECO Daily, ranging from 3,5 to 7-ton, is available in a choice of models with different body, chassis, wheelbase and carrying capacity options. It introduces new standards of technology, performance and comfort into the world of commercial vehicles and passenger transport, while losing none of the sturdiness, practicality and versatility of a great work tool. IVECO Daily also offers African professionals three important features: the support of a “C” section long-member chassis, adaptability to the greatest number of missions and bodies, and the thrust of powerful and economical turbodiesel engines.

EUROCARGO
Available in model derivatives of between 10 and 18-ton, whatever the mission, whatever the application, the IVECO Eurocargo performs. It adapts to the most diverse situations: in town, out of town, on difficult terrain and in extreme climate conditions. With the choice of day and sleeper cab variants, the IVECO Eurocargo equipped with the Tector engine – ranging from 135 kW (180 hp) to 210 kW (280 hp) – is widely appreciated within Africa for its excellent torque and high flexibility at low revolutions, providing best-in-class performance and reliability. Apart from the standard 4×2 version, the IVECO Eurocargo is now also available with 4×4 axle configuration, giving an even wider choice to the operator.

TRAKKER
Firmly establishing its place as the off-road vehicle of choice, the IVECO Trakker offers operators the perfect combination of performance and productivity, whilst delivering uncompromised reliability. With product features such as the Raccor fuel filter and optional single reduction rear axles, the Trakker has the ability to work in all weathers over any type of terrain, from unsurfaced roads to extreme off-road conditions, and yet still providing superior levels of comfort and responsiveness for the driver.

STRALIS
Utilising Euro3 compliant engines ranging from 262 kW (350 hp) to 360 kW (480 hp), the IVECO Stralis is able to meet, and exceed, the requirements of today’s African professionals operating in the heavy-duty haulage sector. With three primary cab options – Stralis AD (day), Stralis AT (sleeper) and Stralis AS (super space) – this acclaimed product has created new standards of transportation performance by offering a superior combination of style and optimised productivity that will satisfy the most demanding operators.

THINK GLOBAL – ACT LOCAL
IVECO is a global organisation in every sense of the word, but with an ethos that says: “Think global – act local.” Due to the increasing strategic importance of Africa, the manufacturer has made an in-depth product study and, by taking advantage of its own industrial potential, has established the best solution that enables it to satisfy its customer’s needs and requests.

With the invaluable support of its rapidly growing dealer network, IVECO has assigned qualified, specialised personnel to the fastest growing areas within the whole of Africa, while demanding an optimum level of service coverage with over 90 service points as of December 2010. Despite the current world economic instability, IVECO has also managed to increase its market share in South Africa, and with the loyal support of its customers, 2011 will enable IVECO to grow even further.
