UD soups up a mobile kitchen

UD soups up a mobile kitchen

“It is wonderful to think that a mere truck can bring so much hope, nourishment and change to so many people during the space of just one month,” says Laureen Stock, senior manager of marketing at UD Trucks Southern Africa …

The truck in question is a UD 40L – and there isn’t only one, there are five. These donated trucks helped the Shoprite Mobile Kitchen feeding scheme to provide more than 357 550 cups of soup, served with a slice of bread, to needy communities during March.

The project aims to address hunger and malnutrition by providing food to school children, senior citizens, hundreds of thousands of people affected by job losses, as well as communities suffering after natural disasters. And, to date, it has served more than 16,7 million cups of soup across the country.

Each vehicle is able to carry 500 litres of water, is kitted out with a fully functional kitchen and manned by two crews to ensure maximum optimisation. The UD trucks operate seven days a week, providing meals to needy communities.

“We are very proud to be part of this wonderful project,” says Stock.
