Volvo gears up to another award

Adding one more achievement to an already impressive résumé, Volvo Trucks has received the prestigious Quality Innovation of the Year Award for a second consecutive year.

The Volvo I-Shift Dual Clutch, which aims to make the driver’s job safer and easier, is an automated manual gearbox with dual clutches. With this ground-breaking set-up, the truck does not lose either speed or power during gear changes, enabling it to carry its momentum all the way uphill.

“It is of course really great that our innovative capability is, once again, being rewarded in this way. We work systematically to develop new solutions with clear benefits for customers and drivers, and the I-Shift Dual Clutch has enjoyed a reception way beyond our expectations. The fact that we have now also received the Quality Innovation of the Year Award is yet another confirmation that our focus is spot on,” says Hayder Wokil, quality director at Volvo Trucks.

This type of transmission was initially developed for high-performance sports cars. Volvo was the first company in the world to employ this technology in heavy vehicles.  With the dual-clutch transmission system, the next gear is pre-selected before the change, resulting in seamless shifting, with no interruption in power delivery.

With the steady flow of gear changes of the I-Shift Dual Clutch, driving becomes smoother and, as a result, driver comfort is improved.

In 2013, Volvo Trucks received the Quality Innovation of the Year Award for the Volvo Dynamic Steering.
