Comforting creatures over Christmas

Comforting creatures over Christmas

The festive season is done and dusted and most people are back in the swing of their work activities … hopefully after having had a change of pace, getting away and spending loads of time with loved ones. Unfortunately the festive season sees the needs of many of the furry members of families being overlooked. This wasn’t the case in Walvis Bay, however.

Shipping company Elgin Brown & Hamer (EBH) Namibia decided to step into the breach by donating pet food, funds and pet supplies to Walvis Bay SPCA’s Santa Paws 2013 project.

“At EBH Namibia an important part of our ethos is to provide support to the surrounding community, after identifying where the needs lie,” explains Hannes Uys, CEO of EBH Namibia. “Animals are often overlooked over the festive season, and so we decided to get involved.”

An international ship repair company and part of the DCD Group, EBH Namibia has been involved  in several projects based on the needs of the Walvis Bay community as part of its corporate social investment drive. “Taking responsibility for the sustainability of the environment in which we operate is a big part of who we are,” says Uys.

He continues: “Job creation for local citizens is high on our agenda, and regular charity drives will help to create a stable and prosperous community. Our focus includes our four-legged friends, many of whom are abandoned over the Christmas period.”

He adds that, in these tough economic times, many non-profit organisations struggle to stay afloat. “The Walvis Bay SPCA relies entirely on donations from caring individuals, community-minded businesses and grants from charitable foundations. We were delighted to have been able to help this Christmas.”

And thanks to EBH Namibia and Walvis Bay SPCA some furry friends can enjoy this year – hopefully by being reunited with their owners or by finding a new home.
