Conquer-it-all Kombi
Fans of the Volkswagen (VW) Transporter are die-hard in their adoration of this versatile, enduring people and goods mover.
With the latest, sixth generation launched in Europe earlier this year, VW has unveiled a special concept version at the current Frankfurt International Motor Show (IAA); that will undoubtedly appeal to fans of the “Kombi” brand.
The new Multivan PanAmericana was designed by VW Commercial Vehicles to have the comfort of the Multivan with the off-road capabilities of a sports utility vehicle (SUV).
A key design consideration was to conveniently and safely transport the owner’s motorcycle in the van, with electrically assisted loading and unloading – allowing them to take it to their favourite Alpine pass or race track.
Painted in Oryx White, the PanAmericana concept vehicle features distinctive details including the styling line above the side sill in Flash Red and black, wheel-arch mouldings and flared side sills as well as a sturdy, lightweight metal under-body guard.
Powering the Multivan PanAmericana is a 150 kW/450 Nm 2.0 TDI engine, a seven-speed DSG gearbox, 4Motion permanent all-wheel drive and a mechanical rear differential lock.
There are, unfortunately, no plans to bring the Multivan PanAmericana to market … yet.
