DHL ties up with Pick n Pay

DHL Supply Chain South Africa recently secured the extension of a major retail contract with Pick n Pay, for its General Merchandise Distribution (GMD).

The contract involves receiving locally procured products at the DHL Plumbago Distribution Centre and the Pick n Pay GMD national stockholding Distribution Centre. The container off-loading of all imported containers at the DHL Stroud Place Distribution Centre in Durban will also be line-hauled up to the Plumbago Distribution Centre.

DHL will then distribute the product – through its extensive primary and secondary networks, via a combination of dedicated fleet and third-party service providers – to Pick n Pay stores nationally. It will also distribute export orders to Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia and Swaziland.

“We are proud to be continuing our partnership with Pick n Pay, which started about five years ago with DHL Supply Chain jointly implementing a greenfield solution with Pick n Pay in Cape Town. It was here that DHL Supply Chain successfully managed the transition from a decentralised (direct to store) business to a centralised operation,” says Paul Stone, DHL Supply Chain CEO Africa and MD South Africa.
