Guidance towards a better future

Hyundai Automotive South Africa is entering the world of driver training. It aims to improve the skills of commercial vehicle drivers and increase the lifespan of its customers’ vehicles.

“Drivers are key assets in the commercial sector, where they are responsible for the vehicles that they are operating as well as for the cargo transported, which is often worth a substantial amount of money,” says Wade Griffin, director of commercial vehicles at Hyundai Automotive South Africa.

He adds: “As a result, greater effort should be made by vehicle manufacturers to ensure that drivers are up-skilled beyond a mere trucking licence and very importantly that, while in the employ of these transport-based businesses, their safety and health is made a priority.”

The Hyundai driver training programme ensures that drivers are trained in areas that include: performing accurate preventative maintenance checks; safe driving principles and mechanisms; driver techniques as well as driver health and fatigue prevention.

Says Wayne Hinde from Jack’s Paint: “The training offered by Hyundai is invaluable. It provides an added value for businesses such as ours. Our drivers are being given critical safety and maintenance skills, at no additional cost to us, and our vehicles are well looked after and last longer. I am sure that it will bring down our operational costs in the future.”
