Institute of Road Transport Engineers (IRTE)

The Institute of Road Transport Engineers (IRTE), which was founded in 1944to encourage skills training and education in road transport engineering, is aninfluential and international professional body with well over 16 000 individualmembers worldwide. These members operate and maintain every type of road vehicle– from cars to trucks, buses and coaches.The society’s purpose is to promote safe, efficient and environmentally sustainableoperations engineering to the benefit of society.The IRTE’s aim is to be the preferred professional body for those engaged in thelifecycle management of systems, facilities, vehicles and equipment, and to be therecognised authority on these matters.Activities within the IRTE include a full annual speaker programme arranged by thevarious centres; an annual gala banquet; the creation of working parties and studygroups on technical topics to prepare reports for the benefit of members and othersengaged in the transport industry; and the opportunity to study proposals for newlegislation and then make recommendations to the Department of Transport.
