Michelin wins double

Michelin has scooped the Tyre Manufacturer of the Year prize as well as the 2015 Tyre Technology of the Year award at the Tyre Technology International Awards for Innovation and Excellence.

At the ceremony, held at the Tyre Technology Expo in Cologne, Germany, a panel of expert industry judges from around the world said both awards reflected Michelin’s commitment to innovation.

The Tyre Technology of the Year accolade was awarded in recognition of the company’s EverGrip technology, used in the Michelin Premier A/S – an all-season tyre that even when part worn stops shorter on wet roads than many competitors’ brand new tyres.

The rain grooves widen as the tyre wears, reducing the risk of aquaplaning, while extreme amounts of silica in the EverGrip compound ensure exceptional wet grip for everyday handling.

Graham Heeps, editor of Tyre Technology International magazine and chairman of the judging panel, notes: “EverGrip joins silica and radial construction on a list of Michelin innovations that have had important safety benefits.”

Jean Pierre Cesar, Michelin vice president for Car and Light Truck Technical Operations Worldwide, says: “The successful launch of the Michelin Premier A/S tyre represents a significant breakthrough in automotive safety, which is totally in line with our Michelin Total Performance strategy.

“Launching the Michelin Premier A/S tyre range, starting very innovative projects in the field of renewable tyre materials as well as supporting the new Formula E Championship, demonstrate some key initiatives in Michelin’s commitment to a more responsible and sustainable mobility; that has to be safer, more efficient, cleaner and more enjoyable.”
