New modes in our mag

There is no doubt about it, at FOCUS we love all road bound commercial vehicles – from one-tonne bakkies to massive hauliers – and everything that goes with them … However, we’re delighted to announce that this love will be spreading as we cast our net wider to include other modes of transportation as well; namely air, sea and rail.

“We believe that this is a logical progression in the growth and development of FOCUS on Transport & Logistics,” explains Charleen Clarke, the publication’s editor. “The magazine is all about transport, and we don’t see why it should be limited to road haulage.”

She points out: “We are also firm believers in the future of intermodal transportation on a global basis. There is no doubt that the 21st century is seeing an increased focus on intermodal freight transportation. As such, it makes sense for FOCUS to embrace and report on all modes.”

Clarke predicts a growth in intermodal transportation – not only in South Africa but also internationally. “But we all need to understand the role of intermodalism and related customer requirements. Plus, the whole process needs to be as seamless as possible. This requires a change in thinking and a broadening of knowledge.”

She adds that it is no longer good enough to be professional and knowledgeable in only one sector of the transport industry. “FOCUS is, therefore, positioned to play an important role in educating and advising industry captains across all modes of transport,” she maintains.
