One-stop shop

A DIY kit has been developed for vehicles carrying dangerous goods, making the process of becoming compliant far simpler.

It’s Saturday morning, and it’s time to do the weekly grocery shopping. Off you set, with your carefully thought-out shopping list in hand. After spending a couple of hours trawling around, ticking off each item on the list, you arrive home with arms full, and a proud smile on your face. At this point it is almost inevitable that your spouse, child or pet hamster comes running up to you saying, “Yes, but did you remember the milk?”

This situation is sure to be familiar to all of us – and it can be worsened ten fold if it involves some form of bureaucracy. Instead of arriving home with the shopping, you arrive at the licensing department with everything you think you need to make your vehicle compliant for transporting dangerous goods, only to be asked, “Yes, but did you remember the 3x190x190 No Open Flame vinyl stickers?”

A need has clearly emerged for a more convenient solution, and this is where Hazchemwize has stepped in. The company has produced a Dangerous Goods Vehicle Compliance DIY kit, containing everything that is needed to make a vehicle compliant, including illustrations of how to install the kit.

“The kit is designed so that it can be installed by the operator, making it very cost efficient as there is no labour cost involved,” explains William Goibaiyer, managing director of Hazchemwize.

Once the operator has installed the kit, all that remains to be done is to obtain permits for the particular goods to be carried and to complete driver training. The driver training can be done at any accredited institution, and Hazchemwize makes the process even simpler by offering this accredited driver training themselves. “For operators who do not have time to install the kits onto the vehicles, we also offer optional installation at our fully equipped workshop and fitment centre, making the company a complete one-stop shop,” says Goibaiyer.

This fitment can be done at the workshop, after-hours or even on weekends, meaning operators’ vehicles do not have to be off the road during peak times.

Hazchemwize is currently looking into getting the fool-proof kit, which includes every detail down to wires, nuts and bolts, endorsed by the Department of Transport.
