Technicians are an essential part of after-sales service. Mahindra SA’s recent Tech Wiz skills contest celebrated the importance of these artisans.
Gert van der Merwe, a technician at Lydenburg Mahindra, has taken the top spot in the contest by scoring 65 points in theoretical and practical tests. He collected a trophy and a gift voucher for R5 000.
Runner-up was Francois van der Walt, of Heidelberg Mahindra, who scored 59 points, with Mukesh Lala, of Lenasia Mahindra, taking third position with 57 points.
“The objective of this annual event is to provide a competitive environment among the service personnel in our dealer network, with the customer being the ultimate beneficiary,” explains the CEO of Mahindra SA, Ashok Thakur.
Mahindra SA is a fully-owned subsidiary of Mahindra & Mahindra of India, distributing Mahindra and SsangYong motor vehicles in southern Africa.
Mahindra SA’s top ten technicians qualified to take part in the Tech Wiz contest. They were evaluated using a theoretical questionnaire in which 60 questions had to be answered in a time frame of 1,5 hours. This was followed by a practical test where the contestants had to find and repair two faults that had been built into a vehicle.
