Although Truck Test aims to test the performance of trucks, drivers are also put to the test. Their skills were especially tested at the Van Reenenโs Pass, which is a slow, winding drive up and down the Drakensberg mountain range. Participants were limited to a maximum of 60 km/h and trucks were not allowed to overtake on this part of the route.
So you think that Truck Test 2017 is done and dusted? Perhaps for the participants, but this will not be the case for the team at TruckScience, as they will now spend several days compiling the final results.
The fifth Truck Test was filled with firsts. It was the first time Truck Test was held over one day, the first time AdBlue was made available to the truck manufacturers, and the first time that Michelin South Africa offered tyre support at the event. The company tested the participantsโ tyre pressures at the pre-test on Tuesday, March 28.
Early on Wednesday morning, March 29, truck drivers and observers from various truck manufacturers gathered at the Engen Blockhouse northbound for muffins, coffee and a briefing on the rules for Truck Test 2017, before setting off on the 640-km journey. The first truck hit the road at 05:36 โ kicking off the test.
